Team 2314 – Empowering Pre-Service Teachers: Digital Global Citizenship Education for Self-Directed Learning

The focus of the project is to enhance the professionalism of pre-service teachers in Hong Kong by equipping them with the multifaceted skills that are essential in a modern educational environment. Moreover, the project places a strong emphasis on comprehending complicated educational challenges, promoting inclusivity, and eradicating prejudice. Employing an immersive learning curriculum complemented, the project can assess student progress by pre and post-tests. The results showed that students made substantial progress in educational attainment and critical thinking. Overall, the project empowers future educators by fostering a comprehensive understanding of the teaching profession through innovative educational methods.

Team2309 – Students-as-Transdisciplinary Collaborators: Addressing the Global Challenges of “What-We-Wear”, HKBU

A transdisciplinary undergraduate program, uniquely addresses the UN sustainable development goals by incorporating insights from 12 distinct disciplines. Initially complex in its breadth, the course has undergone a transformative shift to focus on sustainable fashion, facilitating deeper understanding and engagement. In collaboration with professors and teaching assistants, the course structure was enhanced to include tutorials, guest lectures, and field trips, alongside a dynamic student-driven component where students interviewed professors and shared their findings in a student showcase. Groups of students delved into how various disciplines intersect with sustainable fashion, culminating in their development of proposals after conducting interviews, field trips, and reflections. This hands-on approach was showcased through 22 booths at the end of the course, illustrating their projects and the power of transdisciplinary collaboration.

The success of this redesigned course was evident through surveys that highlighted a significant increase in students’ familiarity with sustainable practices and their critical thinking skills. Moreover, the project helped students grasp the nuances of curriculum design and appreciate the value of student-partner projects. It fostered a strong advocacy among students for increased transdisciplinary collaboration across institutions, aiming to leverage shared resources and strengths for a broader educational impact.

Team 2301 – Present AR

The project was designed to revolutionize online learning by creating a dynamic and immersive experience through augmented reality (AR). It involved a collaborative effort among students, lecturers, and advisors from various educational institutions, forming an effective student-staff partnership. The centerpiece of this initiative was the development of the AR application, “Present AR,” which introduced groundbreaking features such as overlaying virtual objects and information onto the real world. This technology allowed users to interact with and manipulate complex concepts in a visually engaging way. The app included advanced functionalities like human motion tracking, structural control, and the use of interactive personal objects, all of which contributed to immersive learning experiences and enhanced storytelling capabilities. This innovative approach to educational technology aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical understanding through interactive AR scenarios.

Team2304 – EQUAL: Gamification in Medical Education – Promoting Awareness of Healthcare Inequality and Cultivating Empathy (Community Engagement), HKU

Healthcare inequality is a pressing issue in Hong Kong, with numerous vulnerable patients encountering challenges in accessing healthcare and receiving essential treatments. To raise awareness and foster empathy, we developed EQUAL, an educational game that allows students to empathise with these patients. Students assume the role of a vulnerable patient, making decisions that shape the patient’s subsequent actions. Through EQUAL, students gain insight into the daily obstacles faced by these individuals, recognise deficiencies in the healthcare system, and enhance their critical and creative thinking skills. The game revolves around three key aspects: available funds, happiness level, and overall health. By directly impacting the patient’s life, students develop a deeper understanding and actively engage in addressing healthcare inequality.
